It is evident that an enormous shift has been taking place in the business world over the last little while. Due to the severe economic situation, more and more people are taking the initiative and starting up their own businesses. This has created a new age….yes, the age of the entrepreneur is coming into its own.
The question that begs to be asked, is whether this is a wise decision for them to make. Are you acquainted with any entrepreneurs yourself? If you are, then you will probably agree, that they have very grand ideas, but they don’t usually have the budget to follow those ideas through to fruition. They are therefore unable to adequately compete with your larger competitors when it comes to marketing.
In light of that, the new entrepreneur who has little to spend on marketing, has to start to think outside the box and use his creativity. Enter Web 2.0. Small companies can now put this free avenue of getting exposure in the marketplace to good use. They can brand themselves for little or no cost. Web 2.0 is basically the social networking media. There are hundreds of such sites, but at the moment some of the most influencial ones are YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Squidoo.
There are many other free sources. Having your own blog is a wonderful idea and if you use WordPress.com then everything is taken care of for you. However, if you are going to be a serious entrepreneur I would recommend you use WordPress.org and host your own blog. You will then have complete control over it and it’s content. Another free source is article marketing. This article you are reading right now is an example of that.
One of the major things that holds a person back is fear. You might be surprised to know that your mindset has so much to do with your success. You have to decide first and foremost your ‘why’. If you do not have a strong enough reason for reaching your goals, then when the going gets tough, as it nodoubtedly will at times, you are not going to be strong enough to hang in there. If you are being held back because of ignorance, then this is one of the easiest obstacles to overcome. There is an abundance of free information available on the Web that will answer just about any question you might have.
One of the greatest sources of information is books. You will probably need both instructional and motivational books. My bookcases are loaded with them and to me they are priceless. For those of you on a very tight budget, I recommend that you search through your local thrift stores. Most of them have book sections and I have found some of my treasured books in such places. Often, they only cost a dollar or two.
Even though you can become your own boss with very little financial investment, there is still going to be an investment….not of money….but of your time, hard work, perseverance and patience. Yes, this is indeed the age of the new entrepreneur. The experts have gone on record as saying that more millionaires will be created in the next ten years, than at any other time in history. Don’t let this golden opportunity pass you by. Believe it or not, right now at least one in eight households in the States has their own home-based business.
There has never been a better time to be an entrepreneur.
